The 12-meter yachts, represent a peak of yacht racing. The 12-meter class yachts were introduced to the America’s Cup in 1958 and continued to be the standard until 1987. After their reign in the America’s Cup ended in 1987, the 12 Meter yachts faced an uncertain future. The high cost of maintaining these racing machines and the lack of the prestigious Cup competition led to a decline in their use. Thankfully, a classic yacht revival movement emerged in the late 20th century. This, combined with the enduring beauty and historical significance of the 12 Meters, led to their resurgence. Today, these yachts are restored and participate in regattas around the world, keeping the spirit of the America’s Cup era alive.
